John E. Griffin has practiced law in Florida since 1977. Before joining the firm, he practiced law as a solo practitioner and spent thirteen years (1977-90) in Florida state government.
Between 1977 and 1979, Griffin was a law clerk for two justices of the Florida Supreme Court. In 1979 he joined the Office of the Attorney General in the Administrative Law Section, where he served as legal counsel to various state agencies and professional licensing boards.
From 1983 to 1987, Griffin served as Chief, Administrative Law Section, Office of the Attorney General. In that capacity, he supervised all Assistant Attorneys General and support staff in that section - in addition to serving as legal counsel to various state agencies and professional regulatory and licensing boards. During this time, he also served as prosecutor for the Florida Commission on Ethics.
Between 1987 and 1989, Griffin served as Cabinet Aide to the Attorney General. As Cabinet Aide he provided legal counsel and policy advice to the Attorney General in his capacity as a member of the Florida Cabinet.
In 1989 and 1990, Griffin was Director, Division of Economic Crimes Litigation, where he was responsible for the management and operation of the Antitrust Section, the Consumer Protection Section, and the Civil RICO Section, of the Florida Department of Legal Affairs. During 1990 he also served as Director of the Division of General Legal Services, where he was responsible for the management and operation of the Administrative Law Section, the Environmental Law Section, the Ethics Section, the General Civil Litigation Section, and the Tax Section, of the Florida Department of Legal Affairs.
Griffin also served as the Attorney General’s representative on the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission between 1988 and 1990.
Griffin left the Office of the Attorney General in 1991 to join the Legal Division of The Florida Bar. While there, he established the Lawyer Advertising Department, served as legal counsel to the Standing Committee on Advertising, and as department head, supervised the management and operation of the Department.
Griffin graduated with honors from the Stetson University College of Law in 1977. He is admitted to practice in all federal district courts for Florida. Griffin has been rated AV by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. This is Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for legal ability (Very High to Preeminent), and for professional standards of conduct and ethics (Very High).
